Mettlach Stein 1478 Dwarfs Etched 12 L Date 1898 One of tow charming mettlach steins i'm listing. This one is #1478, from the dwarf series. In the scene, the dwarfs are constructing barrels.
Lid has inlaid grape pattern. Top and lower sections of the stein are glazed. The pewter top hsa a dwarf with stein in hand sitting on the thumblift. There is one place on one isde (see photo) where there's a small streak of off/white instead of the blue background. Looks as though it happened in the decorating of the stein. It's above the second and third stalks of plants. Otherwise, i see no chips, cracks or flaws. The marks on the bottom are difficult to see but they include the old tower mark, 89 for the date, some of the decorator's marks. Great gift idea for the stein collector on your list!
